American Innovations’ Field Data Division Names Ken Cowan New President

Austin, TX – January 7, 2008: American Innovations’ Field Data Division (FDD), leading provider of products and services for pipeline industries, announced Ken Cowan has accepted the offer to become President. Cowan will succeed Rich Smalling, who had been acting as both President of American Innovations (AI) and the Field Data Division. Smalling will remain President of AI.

Ken Cowan has a distinguished career in operational management. He served as Vice President and Product Line Manager for Manufacturing at Columbus, OH-based Battelle Memorial Institute, a $&3.4 billion, non-profit R&D corporation, for the past two years. By implementing new lean manufacturing practices and establishing a Quality Management System, Cowan improved on-time delivery by over 100%, reduced product defects by 50% and increased product volumes of 400% during his tenure. Previously, Cowan managed Wolfe Engineering (Austin, TX) and worked for Applied Materials for 8 years, where he served in a variety of key management positions, including the Senior Director of Operations for the Metal Deposition division in Austin. Prior to joining the corporate world, Cowan served in the Navy for 13 years; at the time of his departure, he was a Lieutenant Commander.

Cowan has a MS in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, a BS in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas. He is a member of the Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Texas at Austin.
