Introducing Bullhorn RM4012: Protect Personnel and Optimize AC Mitigation Systems

Austin, TX; October 17th, 2011 – American Innovations, a leading provider of products and services for pipeline industries, announces the release of the Bullhorn RM4012. This remote monitoring product is ideal for measuring the induced AC voltage, AC current and associated current density that can be present on oil and gas pipelines near high voltage AC power lines. Data collected helps pipeline operators protect personnel, comply with regulations and ensure overall pipeline integrity.

The RM4012 monitors pipelines by utilizing the Inmarsat geostationary satellite network for low latency, highly reliable communications. Users access measurement data through the Bullhorn Asset Tracker (BAT™) website, which also provides notifications on equipment status, including user defined alarm conditions, via email, voice and/or SMS text notifications.

Pipeline monitoring with the RM4012 is an important component of AC Mitigation design. "Co-located facilities present unique challenges to pipeline operators," said Ken Cowan, President of American Innovations' Remote Monitoring Division (RMD). "By monitoring for potentially dangerous AC voltages, pipeline personnel can protect themselves as well as address situations that may cause long term damage to the pipeline. Operators can usitlize acquired data to make help ensure compliance with DOT regulations."

The 6-channel unit features 4 analog inputs and 2 digital inputs and measures AC amperage, DC voltage pipe-to-soil, AC current density on test coupons and AC voltage pipe-to-soil. It can be connected to a test point, grounding mat, DC decoupler or similar device. The unit is solar powered with a battery backup, which eliminates the need for an on-site power source.
